The LAFL Cup slips away

With a really clumsy refereeing that disallowed 2 Lions goals, PwC City managed to clinch the LAFL Cup trophy against the Lions.

The weather was incredibly hot and Sutton United's artificial grass surface made things even worse for football. Still, the Lions started strong, dominating the game and putting pressure on PwC City.

With 30 minutes played, Lions found the goal with a beautiful shot by Xabi from outside the box.

The game continued and Lions started to play more comfortably. A few minutes later, our talented midfielder Michal made a great effort from outside the box - a beautiful goal!! Lions celebrated what would seem like an easy win, but referee Mark Caswell decided to complicate matters claiming a "leave it!" shout was heard, and according to his own football rules disallowed the goal.

Our solid goalie Diego was not in his best day and a wrong pass from him reached the skilled PwC's striker, who controlled the ball well and made an unchallenged shot to the back of the net.

With 1-1 at half-time, Lions had to find the goal again. And it did, but not the expected way. After a bounced ball at the box, our talented CB Leo ended up deflecting a ball that had no danger to our own goal. PwC 2-1.

After a few subs, Lions resisted and our winger Harrison made things level after a nice header: 2-2!

Lions were pressing until Jeremy found himself in a great position to shoot to the back of the net. But the ref called off-side. And this happened yet again, this time with a ball shot from the defender. It was simply not the Lions day...

It finished with a wrong pass by our monster midfielder JP, that reached once again PwC's ruthless striker. With a great shot, he found the corner of Diego's goal, sealing the deal at 3-2.

The game would yet be interrupted by almost 1 hour by an ambulance after a head clash between JP and PwC's midfielder, that naturally didn't end well for PwC's player.

And so it happened, our only loss of the LAFL Cup was the final game. And Lions vowed to claim back the trophy in 2019!!
